We are currently looking to recruit a Product Family Manager – Legacy Projects

Location: Hennigsdorf

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

YOUR ROLE

The Product Family concept is a fundamental enabler for Bombardier to optimise both financial returns and performance out of our products, by ensuring a fit for purpose product family, capable of meeting relevant market opportunities worldwide, without requiring to undertake high risk [completely new] product development within live projects.

The purpose of the Product Family Manager is therefore, to lead a multi-disciplinary team to manage the product and associated variants, in line with the Product Road Map, for the product family under their responsibility. In this regard, each product family must be viewed as a primary asset for the company.

Working very closely with Sales & Marketing worldwide and the Product Delivery & Services organisations, critical within the scope of the Product Family Manager are the following accountabilities:

Product Development off cycle (R&D) and on-cycle (on bids & projects)

Product Competitiveness & Total cost of the product

QCD performance on work packages assigned to the Product Engine

Return on Investment for R&D

Product reuse (KPI: first approach: based on Doc 42; then on article number)

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Management of the product family – Off Cycle

- Working closely with Sales & Marketing worldwide to ensure that market opportunities are captured and requirements are understood and translate them into the product family definition.

Assess market potential, identify and prioritize generic client and market requirements and align on business priorities with Global Sales & Product Delivery and Services organisations

-
Establish and propose the product and service strategy

-
Prepare Product Book reviews

-
Define & manage the product baseline and associated variants and maintains the Product Book

-
Ensure the maximum reuse, enabling Bombardier to fulfil both market requirements and achieve requisite technical standards.

Use building blocks that are made available across product families

-
Design and cost building blocks that have specifically been allocated to them as their area of responsibility

-
Ensure the competitiveness of the product family and competitive advantage by implementing, in the product roadmap, improvement initiatives and cost optimization initiatives that cover the entire product life cycle

-
Ensures product readiness for bids, by leading product development (and the associated product variants portfolio), in line with the Road Map.

Delivers all product data required by bids and project, including costing commitments

-
Owns the product authority and leads the change control relating to the product family & guarantees the product integrity globally

Ensure the product can be sourced, manufactured (define the industrialisation), tested and serviced in the most optimized way

2. Management of the product family – On Cycle

- Lead the different development teams, up to GR6 for every bid & project that will be attached to the Product Family

- Works directly with the project teams, to deliver the work packages that are assigned to the Product Family, meeting project QCD targets as defined in the contract.

- Manage the manufacturing of the pre-series trains and organises the Transfer of Manufacturing

- Ensures product validation, authorization and homologation

- Ensure the product performance, including safety, in operation and maintenance

3. Multi-Functional Team Management

-
Responsible for building & leading a multi-functional core team, team to manage the product family over its life cycle

-
Responsible to lead the Engineering Project Managers for every contract arising or attached to the Product Family

-
Will work closely with Engineering, Procurement, Operations, Quality, Services & ROS Equipment, to build the core team and will be jointly responsible for the PMP cycle.

-
Will ensure strong talent management focus for all key roles (as defined in the talent champion framework).

-
Responsible for developing both the team and individuals within the team, to deliver optimized performance.

-
Will implement strong employee engagement strategies within the team.

Qualifications

Your Qualifications

-
Degree or Masters level in engineering plus international recognition from Engineering institution e.g. Chartered Engineer

-
Strong technical background within systems engineering essential

-
International and multi-site work experience within a complex matrix environment is essential. Has successfully worked within an environment, with strictly controlled QTC KPIs delivering to multiple customer bases (Government and Private)

-
Has successfully operated in a global company undergoing significant restructuring / transformation programs.

-
Tangible experience of having led a multi-disciplinary team to manage a product within the capital-intensive industry, incorporating highly complex engineering (ideally including software, mechanical and electrical subsystems). Experience should incorporate all primary phases, from specification, to design to homologation. (Delivered within budget)

-
Previous experience within rail desirable, but could also include special equipment, lifts, buses, trucks, car, aerospace & defence sector leading a product or system project from Bid to Homologation to Services

-
Proven experience within a product development role, preferably gained within a vehicle or complex product field, including managing key risks in product development.

Has provided product focussed sales support, for complex large scale projects

-
In-depth knowledge & understanding of Product Development. Must be able to articulate best in class tools, methodologies and processes utilised in the product development cycle.

-
Knowledge of how product development processes have evolved over the last 20 years, including the requirements for "off & on cycle" development to effectively manage risk and how this in turn influences the product development strategy

-
Must have strong knowledge of the market, the associated opportunities and be able to describe how these are in turn translated into product opportunities, including the process for market segmentation, target market value, identification of "critical win" opportunities, product start up targets and platform / product strategy development.

-
Good understanding of technology readiness management and development and how this aligns with the product road map. Will ideally know BT's internal TRL process.

Good communicator both through face to face discussions and presentations.

-
Excellent people management & leadership skills.

-
Experienced in negotiating within cross-functional teams to influence overall product strategy

International Work Experience

Fluent English essential & German highly desirable
