Conserving – Exploring – Exploiting

The IPK is one of the world's leading international institutions in the field of plant genetics and crop science. Its research program and services contribute significantly to conserving, exploring and exploiting crop diversity. Its research goals are driven by the need to ensure an efficient and sustainable supply of food, energy and raw materials, thereby addressing a major global ecological challenge.

Postdoctoral Researcher in Barley Functional Genomics (f/m)

The research group Genomics of Genetic Resources (GGR) is seeking a highly motivated postdoc to participate in a 3 year international collaborative project (IPK Gatersleben, University of Dundee, University of Minnesota / St. Paul) on barley functional genomics. Based on quantitative transcriptomics and GWAS in a barley diversity collection, we aim at elucidating regulatory gene networks involved in regulating yield related traits. The work builds on cutting edge genomic resources that were in the focus of the research group GGR for the past 10 years.

Your tasks:

  • You will execute gene expression analysis by RNAseq in 2 (of 6) tissues in approximately 200 genotypes.
  • You will be involved in phenotyping of seed, inflorescence and/or tiller traits.
  • You will perform genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and gene network coexpression analysis.
  • You are ready to take and lead lab-, field-, and computer tasks.

You fit to us:

  • You want to work in a world-class research centre with state-of-the-art facilities and scientists from all over the world.
  • You are highly motivated.
  • You have the ability to work independently, but also show a strong team spirit.
  • You want to build a career in science and you have a strong drive to succeed.

Your qualifications and skills:

  • You have a PhD or equivalent degree in biology, agriculture or any related field.
  • You have a strong background in cereal genetics and genomics.
  • You have extensive experience in RNAseq wetlab experiments and data analysis.
  • You possess advanced knowledge in statistics.
  • You are well acquainted with the use of R software or equivalent.
  • You possess solid English skills.

We offer you:

  • A friendly and productive working atmosphere
  • An access to an international scientific network in cereal genomics
  • A project based postdoc position limited to three years starting July 1st, 2018
  • A gross salary up to E13 TV-L
